Any opposing movements were always one (or more) steps behind because, first, the introduction of a new power language to politics is baffling at least; second, because even fascists could adopt the new aesthetics to varying degrees. 2/

People fighting fascism probably spent ungodly amounts of time asking questions like "wait, is my neighbor a fascist, too? he always seemed like a nice person... you know something, I'm probably reading too much into his having a flag of my own country in their window." 3/

Now, why am I saying this? Because in this day and age, fascists don't need to appeal to aesthetics. The way we inform ourselves in this day and age is enough to introduce this layer of confusion. Fascists have always appealed to fake news, but they couldn't produce it en masse... 4/

What I mean by that is that fascism in the 21st century does not look like fascism one century ago. They will not dress uniforms or do grandiose parades. They dress like the everyperson, and parade ther carefully curated images in our TikTok feeds. 5/

They do the Nazi salute just for shits and giggles, and then say it was not a Nazi salute because they are not even close to emulating the aesthetics of the Nazi regime. And, just like good people who were dumbfounded 100 years ago, here we are. 6/

Judge their actions, not their aesthetics. Don't play their silly games, that's what they want you to do. Just call them fascists. We are fighting for our lives. Fascists know that every single time we are civil and gracious, they may get their guns one inch closer to our heads.
