Beethoven started to become deaf later in his late 20s though, it's misconception that he was born deaf but somehow knew how to make music.

I never know how to tell my sis this, since I KNOW she'll take major offense at it. She makes RPG Maker games for gamejams, but she doesn't really play many games... so when I ask her about them (her games), they just never sound really fun or inspiring, and when I try them, they AREN'T. 😭

Exactly. How do you know what UI or systems absolutely don't work? Play games with bad systems and UI. Otherwise you'll end up making something that doesn't work, and you'll blame the players for not understanding what you took for granted.

Even productivity apps gain from game UI lessons learned.

I've heard quite a few people who go from reviewing to screenwriting say it's in some ways far more helpful to their craft to watch bad movies because they learn better what not to do, whereas good movies can risk you getting caught up in thinking "I could never do that". Same applies with bad games

And sometimes "bad" games are hilariously fun to play, just like "bad" movies can be amazing fun to watch. It's almost an art-form unto itself. Make something so awful that it becomes iconic (looking at you, Paul Verhoeven!)

Agreed, even that helps a lot. I just find it unfathomable that people claim "i don't have time", make it. If I can make it, surely everyone can. I'm not saying it's a lot, and it's not always easy, but it's essential!

Do artists look at art? Do writers read books? Do physicians have checkups? Do lawyers have continuing legal education? No. You are above everyone else and your pure, unpolluted and naive ideals are better than the millions of people in your field.
