I've seen that in a few trees. One reason was that she was married to someone before marrying that child's father. The other reason I've seen is her mother was married more than once so the grandkids had heard the surname of their grandmother's spouse and not their mom's bio dad.

I've also seen a woman's married name from remarrying after the child's father died, particularly when the mother was still alive at the time of the child's death. In other words, the mother was listed with her current/last married name.

My 2nd grandfather's name was Jozimas de Braga. He married under his nickname Zozimo. Once he got to the HI docs have Semas Bragas, James DeBraga, Jose Braga, & Bezem Braga. Around 1905 he settled on Jozimas DeBraga. His kids had no clue because his tombstone has Juzimas Braga.

Yes! I have multiple maiden names for one of my g-grandma’s. Kurek or Gurek. And then there were her cousins who changed their name to Kirk.

I had a wrong Death Certificate from Pennsylvania. A survivor fills it out and sometimes they do not know the maiden name of their grandmother so they guess. I don't know what is going on with your issue.
