I think it makes sense to play the long game with Bashear. Having a Democratic Governor in an essentially red state is a MASSIVE asset. He can run in '28 against a weakened Rand Paul.
He needs to stay in KY and help them on track, and partner with CIN to keep that city sane. Whenever we cross into KY from OH, we say, "now entering Andyland"
I love Andy Beshear.
My wife and I moved from KY to Texas (long story 😞), and we fondly remember 'Beers with Beshear' updates every evening during the pandemic. He's a good egg.
As a Kentuckian, I don't like saying this, but this means a MAGAT will win his seat. Beshear is the only person capable of winning that seat. I love Charles Booker, but he should run for mayor of Louisville (he should have a few years ago, too.) There is no one else that the public is aware of.
Running for senate doesn’t really hold any benefit for Beshear. He’s a popular Governor (a role where he actually has authority), there’s little chance he’d win as a Dem Senate candidate in Kentucky, and as a Dem with a solid record leading a traditionally Repub state, he’s got a shot at President
My layperson sense - people are more open to voting for governors of opposing parties because they hold the executive accountable for living conditions in their state. When conditions under a party in power for a while become unbearable, they’re open to giving the other party a chance.
Not a fair trade at all. You'd have to throw in the Alamo and most of your country music stars to even make an offer we'd reject. Governor Andy is pure gold. Governor Abott is pure horses**t.

I think Amy McGrath is likely worth another shot!

He’d be a great senator.
