FWIW, I found the data-driven approach in Pfaff's "Locked In" to be more compelling than Alexander's tendency to use anecdotes.
I also just started Hinton yesterday, and already appreciate its deep exploration of the historical context (vs the lawyerly perspectives in Alexander or Pfaff).
