This is a fantastic new result but unfortunately the reporter hasn't quite got the spin right. We've been mapping dark matter in the cosmic web for a long time (e.g👇from 16 years ago). Maybe this is why it feels like we're being silent? Thanks for the link tho!

From a limited understand...If the universe is 2500 megaparsecs across, how fast is the universe expanding from a point at 24999 megaparsecs? Q2- What is the speed at the point where something goes to nothing, a flash point if you will?

Thanks for that, I get that relative to our position the cumulative acceleration, (the all directional stretchiness) will exceed the SOL. But if I was to place myself within the last megaparsec of space, next to the nothingness of expansion, what would the speed be? I think it would be 68kps.

What I am asking, is- Isn't everything relative? We are saying that the SOL is relative to our position and the cumulative expansion is relative to our position. The speed of light is viewed as a constant, yet the expansion rate is not. Wouldn't the expansion rate have to be looked at locally?

It’s such a useful way of bringing freedom into your model, but as there is no theoretical motivation behind it I’ll be even more perplexed if we see a significant deviation from zero. It’s going to be excellent fun looking for it though!

Lovely discussion.

The muon g-2 anomaly seems to have evaporated. The anomaly in b meson decay rates seems to have evaporated. My gut feeling is that the Hubble tension, too, eventually will evaporate.

I hope I am wrong!

Thanks George. As astronomers have been arguing over the Hubble constant for as long as there has been a Hubble constant - odds on we'll be sticking with tradition and arguing about it for another century or so 😂
