I grew up in the system. My mom was on welfare, she has a case worker and we relied on food stamps; however, anyone that was hungry around Gale Glasspie, wasn’t hungry for long. We didn’t have much but she made it work.

I also grew up in the system. We called it being “government cheese kids.” To this day, two things are still true: 1. I cannot stand the smell of bologna because I lived on it k-12. 2. I have never found a cheese that compares to govt cheese for grilled cheese sandwiches. Weird.
