Me too, but it won't ever happen. I think it's more likely we'll have independents on the crossbench. I don't think either major party will work with the Greens, unfortunately.

I think the PM matters from the point of view of being the face and voice of government. He or she needs to clearly articulate the objectives and direction of government and respond to opposition attacks. For me, Gillard was this PM but even her own party knifed her.

I agree with you. At the state level, we have a wonderful local MP who goes to bat for her constituents. But our federal MP is pretty absent. I'd like to support him as he's Labor (and definitely better than the Liberal predecessor) but I haven't a clue what he does!

Let's not wet the bed just yet! I don't think anyone is in a position to substantially lift the Labor vote. You'd probably just finished off two Labor pollie careers - even if you could navigate Labor's rules for knifing a sitting PM.

I believe the first Labor leader who calls a spade a spade, speaks plainly without weasel words, has a compelling vision for the future, and takes tough decisions to make it happen, stands up to vested interests and aussiegarchs, and calls out dickheadery in the media or opposition, will romp it in.

Yes, I actually loved the idea of a non-career politician, as do many others. Sadly, it turned out to be Trump. In Australia we have the Teals, and Lambie to name two. Don't agree with everything they do/say but it is usually genuine at least.

Not sure about that. I don't think Albo ever really had a spine. I was never happy about him as choice of PM. My choice would have been Wong but I recognize Australia is misogynistic - and racist and homophobic, so probably wouldn't have worked.

Followed Albo his whole career, I think he is overall good... but has made some difficult compromises based on politics, not his own beliefs. Soon as you sign up for any major party you're owned I guess? Australia is great! But yes you're right about the problems.
