It's been off my list (and i travel OS 2-3 times a year) since the SC decision on Roe v Wade. Staggering that anyone would think visiting the US at the moment would be a good idea with all the disruption and uncertainty.

this is scary given the amount of discretion border guards have. especially for anyone travelling in any sort of way that seems weird to them. In the past, I have had issues when crossing by train for example even before all this latest craziness

I have friends close enough that I consider family in the US so I am always going to be traveling there when I can. This stuff makes me extra cautious though.

Seriously though, I first visited the US in the 80s, and even then found its officialdom unwelcoming and threatening. Now, I wouldn't want to give it a moment of my time or a cent of my money.

Unfortunately they do not have the funds to travel and I do. I'm happy to weather that cost, and parts of the USA are the most beautiful places I've ever seen.

I'm not defending the USA as a nation, just to be clear. I think it's fundamentally broken, but I also think everyone I know and love who lives there feels the same. No one I know who lives there chose this. As with his last term, the most people who will suffer under Trump are Americans.
