Leave your phones, tablets, laptops, etc behind and buy 'burners' over there.

Set up a 'phone tree' back home to distribute your new burner phone number for while you're over there.

Maybe you should set some regular 'check in' regimen too.

No. Just don't go. "I have to decline the invitation as I don't feel safe traveling to that particular destination, but I will be happy to join/present/participate over a videolink"
