our government will tell us that we live in a democratic country, but we do not. the US is very much an oligarchy and all of our systems in place are designed to benefit the rich and nobody else, while simultaneously making Americans believe that if we just work hard, we’ll get everything we want.
The best way to explain these EO’s is that they are a wishlist. Some “take effect” immediately bc the ppl in high positions that are loyal to him set them into motion. Others need to pass Congress via an actual law, which can then be fought in courts (which is what will happen to most of these)
Another important addition: all of his EO’s can and will be revoked once we have a new democratic president. Nothing he signs will last forever, it just will really suck and hurt a lot of people for these next few years
yeah but that's IF he doesn't rip away our ability to vote like he said he wanted to do. atp i'm out of optimism, i can't even say he won't be able to do that because honestly maybe he can, with over half the government under his crusty, musty thumb.
If you were to analyse different democracies throughout the world, the U.S. would be faaaaar down the list. If this continues, it will soon not be called a democracy anymore, but a dictatorship. If you can't call it that now already.
It’s a representative democracy because we’re a federal union of semi-sovereign states, not a unanimous collective. He can do these things because people chose not to vote in the most important election of their lifetime at any representative level. Hope they enjoy learning lessons the hard way.
the thing is that he SHOULDNT be able to do this. if our justice system and congress were balanced like they’re SUPPOSED to be they’d shut it down. but he’s playing the long game and so now has nobody to stop him.
What happens is people don't get involved in local and state elections. Those are the people that get to the higher offices and make decisions. I know people that don't vote at all, so it is really taken for granted. When 12% of the people decide the menu, that's what you'll eat
