I still have to write paper cheques for rent and I receive them often from clients

Being able to drive a stick shift is about as vital as being able to ride a unicycle, but there’s a lot of people here who seem to think it’s the end-all-be-all of life skills.

Seems like there might be a big overlap with people who still write paper checks.

Is Canada the same as the US, where the account and routing numbers are printed plain as day on personal checks? I won’t hand that info to some rando. They can drain your whole account 😂

Here, our banking security is much better than in the USA so that isnt a worry (the answer to the q is yes)

When I worked in banks, we had to close accounts somewhat regularly because the owner had their checkbook stolen. It is wild out in these streets.

That is hard to accomplish here. You need a bank account unless it's a government cheque. And if it's a cheque from a new person and a large amount, a hold is usually places to check signature with the bank of cheque owner

Interesting. With the numbers from a check, I’d have all the info I need to take all the money out of someone’s account. Just plug that info into Cashapp or whatever and transfer everything.

Hence my reluctance to hand the info to people. If necessary, I use money orders or cashiers checks

Yeah, that isnt possible here. We don't even have something like Cashapp because of security issues

I'm almost nostalgic for paper cheques now - increasingly rare in the UK (although tax refunds come via them still)!

Automatic transmission is the minority for cars here still, mostly it's manual by default.

Yup. My HUD apt won't accept anything but paper check.
