Book indexing conundrum no. 3. Townscape only for pages discussing the AR/Cullen etc. movement, or for all pages where Townscape-style design approaches are used?
Book indexing conundrum no. 5. What to do now I realise I had a category I'd forgotten, and failed to put page refs in for a large section of text; delete or re-read?
I'm sure a real indexer will contradict me but I'd have 'Laura Ashley' if you are talking about the business rather than the person, and Roberts, Sir Gilbert before John (because 'Sir' is a title not a name.)
I don't disagree but but but ... what about e.g. John Laing, the building company usually known as 'Laings'? Several similar cases where the surname is better known!
You wouldn't (I hope) have separate entries for 'Roberts, Gilbert' and 'Roberts, Sir Gilbert', so 'Roberts, John' comes after 'Roberts, (Sir) Gilbert'.
Just had a canter through the indexing reference books but found no advice. I would ignore the Sir in filing order, as the person searching for him may not be looking for that title or even know of its existence.

But as noted I overdo this! I've included things in indexes which I knew I would want to find in a hurry e.g. during a supervision.
But I've always just made up my own set of rules when indexing, and I probably overdo this sort of thing.
Something went wrong in the editing, there
