Terry Gilliam's FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS is an odd curate's egg of a film. It's immaculately well-made, it isn't dishonest about its source material...and yet it makes me feel oddly bad for some reason I can't quite describe.

He's a beast. Both of them are, explicitly. It's the parts of you that root for that beast, for them to get away with it, that makes you feel bad. I feel it too.
100% it's not an easy watch, I have always just thought it's part of the art, it definitely brings alive the sensations that I understand from its subject matter (not having consumed everything they do, of course)
I think for me it was a case of the fans souring the material. It was definitely the kind of movie you'd see on someone's DVD shelf next to Fight Club and three seasons of Family Guy and literally nothing else.
