I disagree. Computational and systems neuroscience has historically been interested in how brains are intelligent, not in intelligence generally independent of substrate (although perhaps the Caltech program differed from the field as a whole)

Caltech CNS was different- it’s Computation and Neural Systems, not systems neuroscience. Look it up. Carver Mead and Terry Sejnowski started it way back when
I think now NeuroAI is distinct in the context of recent advances in AI and the need for new interdisciplinary research with a focus on neuroscience beyond just a mere inspiration. Hence neuro first then AI.
