Really pisses me off that @theguardian.com always lazily uses ‘UK/Britain’ when actually referring to rUK. This is about use of Deprivation of Liberty orders in Eng, Wales & NI. Scotland uses different legislation & has written ECHR protections into domestic law to increase children’s protection. - ThreadSky

Yup. Something every pro journalist should know. If their articles don't recognise this then either 1) they aren't professional, or 2) they have a unionist agenda.

In matters relating to Scotland, we shouldn’t underestimate the laziness, ignorance and stupidity of the so-called journalists of uk media (WM politicians too). There is the England as Britain/uk thinking that blinds them to the existence of Scots Law coupled with a laziness to learn or factcheck.

BBC were doing the same thing with local government pension funds t'other day - using "UK" when they meant "England and Wales". To be fair @theguardian.com got that one right.
