I think part of the reason I'm so fixated on pokemon AZ is because I insist pokemon XY were the best pokemon games. insofar as each game in a franchise should be better than the previous, particularly on a technical level, I feel like there was a bit of a drop off after gen 6 - ThreadSky

Pokemon SM was experimental with the format, but the pacing ended up being way off. At some point I just stopped wanting to turn it on.

I'd already decided not to play the next generation if it didn't show something to impress me because SM just wasn't fun.

(And I hated z moves as a mechanic)

SS did manage to drag me back in for various reasons, but it just doesn't treat you like the protagonist for 90% of the game. most of the plot happens behind your back, then you show up for the finale.

and game balance was just off. It never felt like a challenge.

I don't need to explain what's wrong with SV. In fact, I'd actually defend it, and I don't feel like jumping in on that.

I liked the story and characters, and it was challenging at points, but there were issues.

(SV is the spongebob "THEN WHY DID YOU ASK FOR IT!?" meme. pretty much every issue came from them trying to cater toward what players had been begging for for years.)

XY is the last pokemon game I can't point out any big issues with.

there were issues, but they were small things, and that's just something you need to accept is going to happen with any large game.

If anything, XY was really just severely lacking in content, especially since BW2 came before it and was practically bursting at the seams with content. The content it *did* have was great tho, I won't deny that.

Idk, I kinda like the idea of the protag being treated like a side character occasionally. Not saying it should be done all the time, and not saying you're wrong for your opinion, but it's definitely an interesting concept more games in general should explore in my personal opinion.

I've only seen myself bring this up, but I kinda like that while we don't have the insanely detailed textures for the Pokemon that we had in SV, the artstyle in Z-A seems to be like an HD version of XY's artstyle minus the chibi-ness of the characters and I honestly love that.
