They started to soften on that after TWA800 and especially 9/11 when they wanted to restrict who could fly,
but ALEC's lobbying in 2009-2010 about using Voter ID to suppress poor and minority voters as a stand-in for suppressing Democrat votes really yoinked them over to the other side.
