Is Mozilla seriously that far out of touch with their own userbase that they would try this? Do they really have no clue who uses Firefox, and why?

Mozilla definitively lost touch with browsers some time ago
like "use that information to help you [...] interact with online content as you indicate with your use of Firefox" sounds to me like legalese to cover "when you type something into a website firefox can send it to that website"
