Don't localized threats and impacts—especially inland—typically come more from the regional NWS offices? I also feel like there’s a “time before impacts” trigger… I seem to remember detailed threats and impacts for Helene ramping up around 48 hours out.

Yeah. Each NWS WFO has their areas they are assigned to as their responsibility. GSP esp was the star of Helene as they were already very loud on impacts, cutting through the noise

That's what I thought. My 80-year-old dad lives in Anderson, SC, so I follow NWS GSP on social media. Helene is a bit of a blur (it was a bit stressful here in Tally for a hot minute), but I remember texting Dad some pretty serious Helene forecasts and threats/impacts graphics.

Let’s look back at some hurricane forecasting history for Accuweather. Joel Myers blamed the Weather Bureau for the 1900 Galveston hurricane when prediction didn’t exist. They advised both Houston & Galveston to evacuate prior to the 1988 Gilbert hurricane, which hit south of TX, not trusting NWS.
