I played the original back when it launched and honestly thought it was ahead of its time in just a ton of ways. So the remaster just blows my mind in terms of how well the core of the game has aged, and how nicely they redid the visuals.
Seriously. People can "bUt ThE gRaPhIcS" the games all they want, but 90%ish of Nintendo's first party games are extremely solid. (No, I'm never forgiving them for Sticker Star)
I don't wanna say video games peaked between 2000-2005, but I mean, it feels like they did. Think of how many games people call "greatest of all time" came out during that period
I'd extend it a little further to maybe 2007-8, since that's when Assassin's Creed, Portal, and Mass Effect started up too. But honestly you're not wrong. It was a golden age.
This is one of the most disappointing things I've read this week.
My kid destroyed my MPT before I could play 3, but I had 1 & 2 individually. They were great conceptually, but empty in difficulty. If in 20 years, it feels like what could pass for AAA now, that industry is hella doomed.
I see more disappointing things daily, but not so much in print.
The game was, and still is, an amazing and correct jump to 3D. But today's AAA? That's going too far.
But the passion of the project is on par with said idea, so I'm not upset.
They really do. Metroid Prime 2 especially feels tight and cohesive, with some really unique art direction, level design, and boss fights. It may not be the pinnacle of the Metroid series, or even the Prime trilogy, but it's close.
Somehow, exploration is always better with a "dark world". The principle endures throughout Nintendo's history.
I really enjoyed how beams felt meaningfully different in Prime 2 and you were incentivized to switch up.
If I'm gonna be honest, I have to give a slight edge to Prime 2 as well. It's really hard to choose between 2 and the original, but 2's unique environments and enemies seal the deal for me.
I loved the intro section, the bosses, the harder difficulty, the easier backtracking, and Dark Samus as a recurring villain. Even the menus were cooler haha.
Only real miss was the multiplayer, which is easily ignored lol.
I played the prime remaster for my first Metroid prime game this year and it doesn’t show its age at all. It’s probably one of the best looking switch games.
Metroid Prime is in my Top 5 games of all time. The music, the atmosphere, the environments... It's just *chefs kiss*. I like all three games, but the first will always be my fave.
Meta Ridley is the best boss fight ever in gaming. The music, the graphics, the tension, the wtf when you get her down. The spider thing after was a kind of let down.
nintendo games are rly good at making ‘cinematic experiences’ usually through art direction and tone and mixing mechanical and thematic elements of gameplay and story.
which is frustrating, because despite the example, so many other devs don’t get it.

Prime Remastered was up there with BG3 and Alan Wake II for my GOTY 2023.
But also to how we’re reaching a “plateau” in terms of visuals anyway lol
Played it on the Cube when it first came out and nearly lost my mind.

Will say though. You’re having a good week if this is ranking high on your disappointment list, hope it stays that way 😅

But yes, I agree; MPR has incredible visuals for the Switch.

but yeah, i need to play the primes frfr
And then I played Fusion and had to IMMEDIATELY play every 2D Metroid available. Even the GB Metroid 2.
I beat Dread over and over and over. I couldn't stop playing until after run 12.
But it’s just so beautifully designed around that control scheme that it’s still great!
