Why don't you go look up who actually owns the magazine, too?
They will be fine once we're all dead as long as they can keep up with the guy who only wants to build roads for child-bearing neighborhoods...
If you want them to stick around they need money too so if you can afford it and read their content supporting them is in your interest!
If you can afford to subscribe, subscribe. If you need to keep your cash, use the library.
Is it just active library users who have access to a given resource (e.g. is WSJ getting paid for my library access even if I never access it digitally?) or is it dependent on actual utilization?
But typically a library or institution will pay an initial yearly base fee, +/- a possible circulation fee based on current number of active users. More active users, more money next year. Or they may charge a flat fee.
I've subscribed to Wired for years though and love it.
