I like the movie, but I feel the mixed reception averages out to this being the consensus on The Garfield Movie. I blame this on multiple factors both within and outside the production imo.
You have a stellar cast (except for Jared Leto), awesome sets and even a good musical score with meaningful nods to the attraction its based on, but the script is bad and it is loaded with product placement namedrops that would almost make Space Jam pull on its collar
The Hobbit trilogy. This is what happens when studio meddling ruins what could’ve been a second lightning strike for Peter Jackson and crew. Too much bad cgi, bad color timing, unnecessary subplots, and too many moving parts sully what could’ve been a charming adventure akin to the book.
Apparently they weren’t given enough time for preproduction, so they improvised most of it under a stringent schedule. Not to mention the endless reshoots. That poor man.
I would have adored if they just made an animated Hobbit and used the live action as bookends to the plot so as to tie into the nature of the original being a kids book.
Yeah, which does bum me out. But hey, I like to dream.
I have my adaptations of the book already in the Radio Drama, the Rankin-Bass special, and the 2000s game. But deep down, I'd have liked a version that combined their best aspects.
I think that Incredibles 2 is a solid movie, but given the first was a 10/10 masterpiece, it’s easy to wish that the sequel matched that level of quality.
Barbie 2023. I actually do enjoy that movie a lot more than some people do. But the more I thought about it, the more the less I like it. If the ham-fisted message was taken out of the movie, I would've like it a lot more.
Brother Bear. It started out strong as amazing representation of native Americans and their culture, but it got bogged down in the 2nd act by them trying to be “modern” when he looks after a bear cub
Wendell and Wild feels like it should be great, great director, great writer, great cast, great designs, great animation but it’s just kind of fine to me. It feels weirdly scattered story wise
I am curious, and this is entirely me speculating, but I do want to know if this want meant to be a Over The Garden Wall deal. Like it was meant to be a collection of several fifteen minute shorts but then they were told to make it a movie

Other than that, I thought it was ok.
Also Samuel L Jackson was such a good bad guy.
