Perfect for retro consoles before 3D. Since this doesn't do HDMI and many early 3D consoles now have HDMI mods, it's not very useful. I would love to have an HDMI switch that talked to the RT4K for profile switching.

Was hyped seeing the screenshot but looks a bit pricy for me right now - will definitely keep it in mind for the future. I am using a scuffed but working RGB autoswitch I got at BEEP in a plastic bag (probably made by one of their employees in the back room, or a friend of theirs LOL)

Yeah, theyre good because they can accept (though not transcode) any signal, and they're matrix switchers so you can split into multiple outputs for capture etc. You can also use them to loop in processors like linedoublers or transcoders etc, or switch multiple consoles to different devices at once

Issue is you need an army of x to BNC converters, they're absolutely massive, and being old broadcast hardware they're both relatively expensive and difficult to buy.

It's amazing for CRT users, of course, or those with multiple displays but it's also perfect for those using Retro Tink upscalers as the SVS can send data to the Tink allowing it to auto-select the right profile when powering on specific machines.

This sounds dumb, but I kinda wish it had HDMI modules as well! I use a mix of modern and retro, and finding good and affordable HDMI switchers is really hard these days. Having that for one switcher that legitimately covers my entire setup would be mind-blowing.

mm. HDMI 2.0 and 2.1 is expensive, but I could see different "grades" of HDMI modules to suit one's needs. For example if you're only running 360/PS3 stuff through it, you don't even need HDMI 2.0, you can get a cheaper module for that.

What’s a good option for just a good, baseline analog switch? I don’t upscale or anything fancy, just a solid switch for playing older consoles on a CRT? I’ve still got my old PS2 themed MadCatz switch, and I think I’m at the point in life where I can upgrade lol.

Best option is still probably an extron crosspoint, unless the market has gone completely insane on prices.
Gotta find one that's compatible with the Phoenix audio adapters and spend around 50 more for those adapters and rca to bnc plugs.

If you can find an old "Pelican System Selector" somewhere like eBay I've had luck with them. There's an old model that has Composite, Composite and S-Video. Really anything that's a passive switcher shouldn't have much that can go wrong.

The FAQ says that transcoding modules are in development, so that’s good. I have a gscartsw and have been planning to go your exact route with chaining the gcompsw with a comp2rgb. I’m unsure what my best option will be once those transcoding modules are out.

The only shame is it's a switch, rather than a matrix, so not really suitable for my needs or beyond what I have now. It sure would save a lot of space though. Having duplicated outputs is a neat feature. Maybe a matrix product\update is on the cards at some point?

Thinking about it from a logical perspective, you'd need to up the pin count between modules and\or have a central 'matrix module, which could limit the number of inputs based on the physical size of said module.

240p is fairly immune to noise but curious how systems like the Xbox running at 720p hold up, and if the audio channels keep a decent noise floor.

The problem isn't gscartsw or superguns, but TTL voltage, which comes out of many consoles' RGB output and will kill pretty much ANY consumer equipment if not attenuated by the cable or a mod. Read: https://www.retrorgb.com/csync.html

RGB HAS supergun can be set to 75 Ohm or TTL.

I have a Gcomp but haven't had a chance to use it with my Retrotink. Currently it's at capacity with 8 consoles running to a CRT. I plan on having the second output passthru the Tink4K to my C1 Think it's worth the upgrade?
