that definitely makes sense. i’d consider him to be eccentric. and i don’t mean that in that in a negative way either, but that’s the type of person he was.
I love and embrace the weirdness but he was so much more and a critic, of all people, should acknowledge the depth and breadth of his artistry when acknowledging his death. “Weirdo” is just lazy imo

If you ever saw his version of Dune that came out in 1984, you’d understand the weirdo comment. That was the weirdest take on an already weird book I’ve ever seen.
