Eight Postcards from Utopia is the new documentary from legendary Romanian filmmaker Radu Jude. It’s essentially a history of modern Romania told exclusively through advertisements. Really inventive and engaging and situated in a nice slot early on Sunday.

The Summer Book is an adaptation of Moomin creator Tove Jansson’s novel based on her childhood. I was the screener who first saw this and lobbied hard to get it in the festival. One of the more poignant films I’ve seen about aging and who it is we live for. Amazing Glenn Close performance

Sister Midnight is CRAZY. It starts as a domestic dramedy about an arranged marriage in Mumbai and then becomes something WILDLY different.

Our Blue World & Seaweed Stories are also films that I selected for the festival and have now been collated into a joint ‘sustainability’ screening. Our Blue World is a Liam Neeson-narrated look at the importance of water to different cultures. Seaweed Stories a short doc similarly examining seaweed

In terms of films I’m looking forward to, I’m buzzing for the Silent Shorts Gala (any opportunity to see Buster Keaton on a big screen). I’m also really looking forward to Alex Ross Perry’s new movie Pavements,?the Gilmore Girls Retrospective, Afternoon of Solitude and Aontas
