It frustrates me that Canadian politicians were jumping through hoops to appease him to try to stop them, but I also get that even a DELAY to the tariffs gave a chance for Canada to put in place internal responses to soften the blow, and that probably saved more than it cost.

But the reality is this was going to happen, no matter what Canada did(short of letting ourselves be assimilated but fuck that idea all the way to hell). And we just have to uncouple ourselves from the US, just like Europe is doing, as much as we can. Trump has ensured the US' only friend is Putin.

the people behind trump are more subtle than that. the tarrifs are a tool to trigger cutting off oil and potash. the weakest ties to Canada are the AB and Sask borders. when their economies suffer the pretty right wing Prov govts will jump at the chance to join the Trump gravy train
