Depends whether you look for a replacement for public events listings or a replacement for private events listings. Two very different kinds of use cases. There are various platforms for public events, but private events organising is a bit more complicated without access to social graph.

I used to attend a few hundred events (during 2013-2019) that were mainly organized via software tools outside of Facebook. Eventbrite, Meetup[.]com, and a few others were regularly used by people in business/tech industry. Most were free to attend, but required signing up before the event.

I'm less worried about biz/tech events: the tools you mention & linkedin for sharing works ok for those imo. More thinking about local non-commercial events like "weekly hobby group hangout in local pub" or "folk dancing jam" that rely on the network of ppl

I have been thinking the same, as I’m now looking at alternatives to Meta products. My neighborhood group has used https://groups.io for years. It is free for up to 100 people. It’s definitely old school in sending messages via email, but it works.
