Bigger text isn’t for increased legibility, it’s for visual hierarchy. Whitespace isn’t wasted space either. Larger visual elements need more space.

My response is about the fact that @hurkle.bsky.social mentions relative units and scaling.

Which I read as using rem/em.

If your H1 uses rem, as it should, what happens when the user changes the font size?

Obviously the text gets bigger, we want that.
But I don't think the margin should grow too

As in: increasing the whitespace.
Obviously whitespace is there to allow text and other content to breathe.

And there's some logic in saying a bigger headline needs more space.

But! You are also just using vertical real estate for "nothing".

No one is talking about horizontal. Specific question was about bottom margin. I get your point. Ultimately, I feel it depends on the goals of the UX system, and expectations should be spelled out in docs.
