I really like thay alley shot! I struggle with the same issue around people. I usually wait til everyone is out of shot before I take it. But lately, I've been trying to practice with capturing people, and it's been getting a little easier.

Exactly! Also, I don't like my own photo being taken, so I imagine it's the same for everyone else. I just feel intrusive. But sometimes they turn out really well, so it feels worth it. So many great and moving photos are candids of strangers.

Same here. It's the feeling of being intrusive. I think that's one reason I'm drawn to sports photography. I can shoot what are essentially candids without the subject reacting to my presence or feeling like I'm intruding.

I recently went to a free public concert, and I felt better about it there. Somehow, it felt less intrusive when it's an event instead of just on the street. Like there's more of an expectation already of photos being taken of everything. I'd imagine it's a similar feeling as with sports

It's definitely the expectation that photos will be taken. Also the subject isn't likely to notice you because their attention is elsewhere.
