I love The Hobbit.
It's not quite as serious as the LOTR trilogy. Yes, there is danger! And bad guys! (and a dragon!)
But, it is There and Back Again, after all.
I agree. That book had gotten me through a few hard times as a child and even now. It felt very reassuring that, through all the risks and dangers, all would be alright in the end.
A couple. The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton (Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel and Katy and the Big Snow come in a very close second)
And, The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats ( the toddler grandchild just received this one from me for Christmas)
I was one of the experiment in the ita reading system so I'd love a book of that, especially including the word icecream which is all I really remember. They were 2 very happy years of infant school and I'd love to read those books again.
