I'm in one the purple areas at the southeastern corner of the Adirondacks. EAB hasn't hit too bad here, yet. But I walk around and know that when it does, that's 10-20% of the trees in mixed-deciduous forests gone
We drove the middle of that red zone in NY, a stretch of road I’ve been on (buses, car) a lot over 4 decades. I had no idea it was that common until I saw them all dead. It was shocking. I just didn’t know. Previously I saw it as only patchy and scattered, like you noted.
