Anyone not on PAYE pays half their annual tax bill at the end of January in one chunk. If there isn’t a huge surplus that month, we’d be in massive trouble. As it is, the surplus is less than forecast, so…
It is. When I set my business up, the best advice I was given was - “never fuck around with HMRC”. It took discipline and planning but I set my tax aside every month so that bill was never a shock…
It's absolutely true. Retail can be a little more volatile and that can be tricky and I have to say, contrary to what you might hear, the staff at HMRC have always been very helpful when I have needed to speak to them.
“Volatile” is such a small world for the massive challenges you must face - I tip my cap to anyone making their way in retail right now. I agree they can be v helpful, I guess my advisor meant that you should never regard your tax bill as optional or negotiable, as so many ppl do..
It is bad news. For someone at the BBC. They will now have to trawl through LinkedIn and find where a minister has put slightly incorrect work dates on their profiles.
They can then start their bulletins with this expose and evidence of fraud whilst ignoring actual Tory fraud!
You’ve got to remember that things are different because it’s Labour in charge. Growth of 0.1% last year was the economy “soaring” under the Tories, this year 0.1% means “stagnant” because Rachel Reeves is the Chancellor…
Yes exactly this. And while I get that there are other factors which may mean this isn't great news, it does seem that they dig out every negative thing with this government. If only the last 14 years had been subject to such scrutiny, then we might not be in the trouble we're in.
I hate this “Rachel from Accounts” nonsense too. Considering the conflicts of interest, tax frauds and downright incompetence of the recent Tory Chancellors, she is on the right track - even if I don’t agree with all the decisions she is making.
It's smacks of sexism and misogyny. Don't remember anyone querying George towel folder Osborne's experience of qualifications (2:2 in history I believe).
