So I’m watching a video on Skyrim vs Oblivion and I’m really surprised by how many RPG elements Skyrim removed.
Skyrim was my introduction to the Elder Scrolls and I loved it but after this video I’m thinking I need to give Oblivion a go.

They keep promising oblivion with skyrim engine.. this I want more than anything
I like both. Same with Skyrim and oblivion.
I much prefer oblivion, personally. Crazy to think how many hours I put into that game back in the day.
Look up Skyblivion mod 👀
Not sure where it's at in development now though.

so far anyway
Excited for the next chapter.
They streamlined the shit out of it.
Morrowind and Oblivion were my absolute favs.
If you cursor over NPC, it would change to a coin for killable, or a crown for unkillable.
Why?! Why remove this?! 😭
> know when they're alone
> it's murder time
> surprise 2 handed mace to the skull in their sleep
> "npc is unconscious"

But even still, Skyrim just has a hold on me that Oblivion never could. It just feels much better to me, and I can't really put into words just what it is.
(Just kidding)
The forts, caves, mines, etc are soooo fucking bland and it’s borderline copy+paste shit. But everything else is incredible. Skyrim has much better exploration
Oblivion was LITERALLY copy/paste. Every room looks the same.
Feels like that Arrested Development joke 'how long could it take to make a great dungeon Michael? An hour?'
Starfield is a good start to re-implementing stuff but Oblivion was peak Bethesda in my opinion.
Taking like 5 minutes to save the game was a pain in the butt though.
It was an ongoing streamlining process and that seems to be why everyone's favorite Elder Scrolls game is usually their first, because they haven't experienced said streamlining yet.
Honestly, I can't blame them. Both sides kind of suck😂
I dearly missed the stats from Oblivion but also recall that unless you know what you're doing going in you might end up quickly over-leveling without stats to match accidentally

I love Oblivion but very rarely return to it.
And it has Shivering Isles which is still amazing DLC
Oblivion was my introduction to Elder Scrolls and I think the main storyline was much better than Skyrim
Been one of my favorite games ever since.
Morrowind is incredible, but can be a hard sell for people because it is an older game with less streamlined design sensibilities.
I really loved that.
Also, even though it became a meme due to the horse armor…Oblivion has some of the best dlc/extra content!
I have heard people say Daggerfall was better than Morrowind though...
If you decide to play there are mods that fix bugs and up the graphics to something less ancient.
They needed to make room for 16x the details
The magic system itself was pretty rough (You can only cast 1 spell at a time) but creating your own spells allowed for some funny or just generally cool moments.
I'm rather curious... I love both these games but I've played skyrim more
There's a lot going for it and a lot not. I feel personally both in gameplay and scope Oblivion is an RPG Skyrim is more a kin to a Zelda-like.
good times
