It's even worse when you remember this current gen Sony packaged a whole-ass 3D platformer for free with every PS5. I feel like Nintendo of all companies could've easily done something similar.

Anyway, my favorite part of Reggie’s book is that he does highlight his attempts to fix problems while he worked in Nintendo and provides examples.

But says absolutely nothing about the Wii U because that shit was doomed.

I think the part of the book that MOST stook out to me, was that Reggie initially wanted the 3DS to be $199.99 yet Satoru Iwata, while negotiating, couldn't accept it and wanted it a little higher? Reggie explained that the US is accustomed to having hardware be in increments of $49.99 or $99.99

It's so wild because like, Wii Sports was a pack-in title. But Wii Play had a Wii Remote packed-in. So getting a Wii + Wii Play netted you

- A Wii
- Two Controllers
- Two couch multiplayer games

Genuinely great value right from the beginning. Wish they'd learned.

It's so funny because every great success period in Nintendo history has kind of always been about this kind of value and their entire strategy around the famicom was conscious of it but it largely only affects the end user and the suits at the top don't care

I went to so many older people's houses that had a wii *just* because it came with wii sports, and by extension wii bowling.

these were older, RETIRED people that literally only used their wii to watch netflix and play bowling. nintendo accomplished what *every* company dreams of and threw it away.

Pack in games or is this thing in Japanese culture. It's only really a thing in the West because of the stigma that still exists around video games. Like not even Wii sports was a packing in Japan so it doesn't surprise me

I could see this being the case with Wii Sports being a "real" game. But honestly, what they showed for this tech demo game is not something you would want to play for a long time. It was mostly text showing what each part of the console is/does.
