Great idea but what about the giant landfills full of plastics already. Any idea how to solve that or is it still a "let's ship outside of Europe and not look" practice. Chemical paradise, no?

Funding further research into enzymes that break down plastics & oils would help.

It needs to be a part of the solution, not the entirety of it though.

Plastics leach into food & drinks from containers, so limiting that use would cut a bunch of related issues.

Passengers take something to drink to airport. Are asked to dump it at security control, then 100 metres later rebuy an EXPENSIVE bottle of drink to keep them hydrated before + after departure gate

I spend over an hour every day snorkelling. Combined with walking, it's my gymnasium. I help keep the inaccessible beaches & coves free of rubbish by removing anything that's been washed up, most of which is oil-based plastics.

Plastic ends up inside US

Rarely, but sometimes I will see an 'Angel Shark' OR... the angel shark will see me and come and investigate! They are very beautiful and quite inquisitive! They can lie still on the bottom almost invisible until they move.

PS. The places I walk and keep clean are many miles away from public roads or driveable tracks, they are only accessible by foot & climbing down the cliffs etc.

I recon I have picked up about three thousand FULL carrier bags of plastic in the last 6 years.

Yeah the yoghurt caps are shit. I live alone and I just drink it out of the container like a barbarian. I've solved the issue by just opening the container the old timey way.

220 fossil fuel lobbyists showed up to a plastics treaty negotiation, outnumbering the host country’s delegation and the entire EU’s representatives. Some were even embedded in national delegations. Remind me - are we solving the crisis or hiring its architects?

the companies that create/created it caused the problem they should be fined until they solve the problem. So tiring to have the blame be put on consumers instead, we walk out of grocery with food in our pockets because there is no plastic bag alternitive.

Sturdy paper bags should be an option in store, beyond that I usually go out with a canvas bag or reusable carrier that folds down to about the size of a wallet.

We as consumers need to be an active part of the solution. Beyond bags, where possible, choosing products made & packed sustainably.

put collection/recycle bins at every store their bags are used and force them to have to actually recycle them instead of dumping them in landfils. They invented plastic they can invent a plastic destroyer but its not profitable so they dont & blame users instead.

Shifting responsibility to the consumer is insidious & endemic - big business is ideally placed to address it but will usually put profit (not simply breaking even) first, unless forced to do otherwise by legislation. But that is a blunt weapon with lots of collateral effects on smaller companies.

There's also the recycling side to consider, consumers pay to have their recycling taken by huge companies who were selling it to China & others overseas but when China stopped taking it people reported seeing more huge dumps of garbage in the oceans which is exactly what US billionaires would do🤔

I have a suggestion: promote products that don't use plastic! Help producers make competitive non plastic products with subsidies and forcing higher prices on plastic products, and we will be able to get rid of plastics entirely! We have the power, we just need the will! Go EU!
