Sometimes it's necessary to highlight that the EU isn't just a money sink but that some of the money goes back to the member countries in one form or another - and in this case post-storm recovery for Spain.

The amount paid today is the maximum permitted under the fund as an advance payment.

We are working full-speed to complete the full assessment of Spain's official EU Solidarity Fund application.

We will then propose the total amount to be granted to Spain.

Being grateful is not enough, but the problem is that the money stays with politicians while Valencians rebuild our houses with ING or volunteers. We have not seen a single euro from the state.
