At some point I'm going to write a book called,
You Should Go to Church Even If You Don't Believe In Any of It.
From a purely pro-social, pro-democracy perspective, attending a house of worship regularly is a very good thing.

Now, I'll only go there to admire the architecture.
"Jesus is so *radical*, man!" 🙄
It’s a house full of lies and peole lying to each other about myth and capitalist control systems.
Religion needs to die and be replaced with secular communal gatherings and direct action government.
The myth of god did nothing but split the proletariat and give power to the ruling class.
secular humanist and ethics societies have all the benefits of a religious community without the restrictive theology
Can people of other faiths or no faith be a regular part of our Christian worshipping community and feel included and at home? Are we OK with them never being Christian?
Part of a community is fine, but keep your fairy tales to yourself.
And we quite honestly don't give the tiniest shit whether you're OK with it. Are you switching to OUR belief system?
Christianity is a very authoritarian religion, though.
Understanding religious is powerful. Pushing it on others is oppressive.

Well... the fact that they believe is real. It's just that what they believe in isn't.
I may be getting unnecessarily pedantic here! 😊
Sunday Mornings I'll go to the gym instead and work out. Beats sleeping in a church pew.
You've got all the necessary parts of a good potluck.
Couple crock pots.
A whole bunch of casserole dishes.
Various kinds of meats.
Many breads.
Dessert table somewhere.
Guy wearing an ill-fitting suit in the background.
I'm here for it.
Maybe you could just have the same social institutions, but not based on made-up bullshit. Then you might actually help people rather than just praying for them.
Find one that matches your own better angels, not your fears & foibles.
That's the actual goal of an idea like this.
That said, I haven’t set foot in any church in years. There are other ways of meeting people and feeling connected.
Christians Should Go To Drag Shows and Pride Parades Even If They Don't Believe In Any Of It
You want community? You want arts? Rituals? You want a place to sashay your way down an aisle like the diva in the primary colors in your column art? You don't need church for any of that. LOOK. TO. THE. QUEER. COMMUNITY.
None of this needs a god.
"Hey, let's pray for world peace and for the poor" "Hey, did you just think of that? Or have you been trying it for years and IT DOESN'T BLOODY WORK??"
this (proposed) book would dovetail in some really interesting ways with Musa Al-Gharbi’s new book. It’s really good!!
he even cites your work
The Church defines your sin, "a transgression against divine law", and tells you that only it can absolve you.
No divine being > no sin > no need for absolution.
I have faults but I'm not a sinner and I, not a church, am the only one who can fix them.
I realize that may be more of a stretch for some traditions than others.
Hey, we can help organise the village fete, we can help out at the soup kitchen, we can deliver food to the needy. We do not need the church, your pretend god(s), your fancy dress or your very dubious morality.
You may not like it, but it's true for some non-Christians.
Or can I skip the services, the prayers and the Bible study?
But Sunday mornings are going to have Christian faith present. That's kinda who we are. ;) But we try to do it in a way that says this works for us, but it's ok if it doesn't for you.
