One thing my group does is start with a set framework. We limit our ranked matches and tournaments to be a single era and each side’s force must be from a single faction. That allows you to narrow down the overall number right off the bat.

Yeah. One guy from our group made a video of how he does it for classic. Another did one for Alpha Strike. I can share either (or both) if you are interested.
