I would definitely recommend legacy of the duelist if you like the early anime. It takes you through the story and you can use the characters' decks. And it gradually teaches you the new gameplay mechanics introduced for each of the different series. :)

Ah perfect, I'm currently in the middle of Dual Monsters dub so it sounds like I should look into starting the game after my rewatch marathon :)

I played Legacy of the Duelist having not seen 3 of the 5 anime arcs and still really enjoyed it! It actually helped me get back into the TCG after not playing for 10+ years!

Ah nice! Hmm maybe I'll give it a go after finishing up some of the earlier seasons and decide if I want to get further in the anime before playing more.

Awesome! Yeah there's a few Yu-Gi-Oh games especially the GBA ones that were a lot of fun! Not sure what's in that collection but Sacred Cards, and Reshef of Destruction were short, fun story driven games.

The legacy of the duelist is good because it has a ton of anime duels (with anime decks) from each era. If you find Link Evolution, however, it is exactly the same game except with a ton more cards (and some ygo vrains content)

I’ve only played Legacy of the Duelist and haven’t played the TCG either; it does a decent job of teaching you how to play and works through the entire anime. I had fun with it :)

You know what I always wanted? A Yu-Gi-Oh video game with the dub voices and music built around a competent version of the card game. I think the closest to that was the GBA games. Running around Battle City and dueling seemed like a no-brainer console game adaptation.

The early days collection has some of the first Yu-Gi-Oh video games. They didn't exactly have many cards or use the correct rules but they are still really fun. I think most of them were out in Japan before the show hit the USA.
