There's an unfortunate number of people who are pedantic enough that yes, they do "correct" us when we say things like that.

As if we should have to change our language. English is very verb-centric.

Like. I also say I'm going for a walk despite being a full time WC user. They know what we mean.

But what’s wrong with „I listened to the audiobook ‚harry potter and the sorcerers stone‘, do you know it?“- then you could answer with „oh I know the book, is the audiobook good as well? I might take a listen“ if that’s even English lol. (I love audiobooks but sometimes the quality can be meh)

Nothing wrong with that, it’s probably what I would say. I think the conversation is mostly about whether someone like that can claim to read books. Let’s say they had to put yes or no in an online form for a book club.

Some are saying it’s a lesser experience. The real reason why people are suddenly arguing about prescriptive vs descriptive grammar with “reading books” is due to the belief that book readers are somehow better than audiobook listeners, or at least not the same on a fundamental level. I disagree.

Ahaha, the only thing that reading does is teaching people how to spell and how to read quickly imo. It has nothing to do with the story. I agree with you
