If you want a nationally televised dramatic and symbolic moment to galvanize the opposition to Trump/Musk, promote this: the elected Dems seat themselves at the State of the Union (March 4), then rise and march out en masse when Trump begins speaking. Send this idea to your Dem rep. Plant the seed!
What does that do beyond performative theatrics? It doesn't slow anything down, and they've already been working with the regime and voting for it's appointies. If they've not obstructing, they're not helping
Good question. But a great deal of politics is performative. Leadership is performative. What the people who *could* lead have not done is demonstrated/declared themselves as leaders. This would provide a first step in that direction. Leaders work to point everyone in the same direction.
Think of MLK. His speech on the National Mall. His actions were inspiring (and sometimes controversial) but it was his dramatic performance that motivated people. Made them come out in numbers and take their own actions. Part of the purpose of the walkout suggestion is to focus the pressure.
Certainly, I don't disagree that leaders are needed and that MLK was effective. However, it's not the 60's, and Schumer is useless and Jeffries straight up admitted he couldn't/wouldn't do anything.
I hear you. All I can say is we have to throw everything we have at it and not give up. Symbolic “performance” can be catalytic to action. We also have a real crunch time for Republicans in Congress as consequences for their constituents become manifest. We have to press Dems to use that leverage.
