My favourite writer at The Observer was Alan Watkins. In 1993 when it was taken over by the Graun he quit and moved to The Independent as he didn't like the Graun.

I didn't understand this Tortoise deal for the Observer, but now I do.
The Graun is paying them so that it can get a large number of journalists off it's books.
