It’s a program for FOOD and the fact that people seem to believe that juice boxes or bags of chips are too much happiness for poor kids is really telling.
ESPECIALLY when that type of food is cheaper. Is it healthier? No, of course not, but it’s better than forcing them to spend more money on healthy foods when a SNAP card only allows a certain balance.
Plus, some people on SNAP are unable to prepare, cook, and clean up meals due to illness/disability/limitations. Not everyone has the choice to not eat those types of foods.
It’s akin to people giving sandwiches/food items to homeless folk instead of giving them money. You’re denying them agency over their purchases. Who appointed you to decide what they want or need?
For the paltry amount they get on SNAP let them use it the way they want.
We go to the local Dollar General and buy frozen food and whatever else shelf stable items that are edible. There isn't a choice for someone without transportation.
Yes, and SNAP still doesn’t allow a person to buy a prepared rotisserie chicken. You can get a frozen chicken, but not one that is cooked and ready to eat. How about we fix that first?
Controlling what poor ppl eat, those creepers with period trackers tracking welfare recipient data (like how does that even happen), is just the creepy obsession and fetishization of poor women if you ask me.
DJT proudly eats shit. So why are we policing poor ppl’s diets?

What is a hungry family to do when the only stores within an hour’s walk are convenience stores, liquor stores, and fast food chains?
