Metis are one of the three distinct Indigenous groups in Canada, alongside Aboriginals ("Native Americans", "Natives", "Indians" etc) and the Inuit ("Eskimos").

One can in fact be Metis and Indigenous.

We don’t use aboriginal. It is not an appropriate word. We use Indigenous for all or First Nations, Métis, or Inuit when speaking of the separate groups. Also, Esk*mo is a racist slur.

I cannot speak for the Inuit, but it is offensive to many Inuit as it is a colonial term imposed by settlers. The bottom line is, Inuit do not want people to use it to refer to them, and that alone should be respected.
