i think it's worse than this. the Republican Party as an institution has thoroughly discredited itself as either interested in or capable of being trustworthy with respect to basic democratic governance

Anyway, I remember the US adopting the Hague Invasion Act back in 2002. I don't want to be that gal, but that was the moment I realised the US had a very peculiar idea of what it means to be an ally. This all tracks, unfortunately.

That act and Guantanamo bay (which made the unspoken 'our laws don't apply to people we dislike' very outspoken) and both never being undone by the democrats is what I think is very telling.

working on basically buying less American or American owned goods. And I doubt when buying the different products has become a habit for them they will go back. The reddit /buyfromEU/ subreddit (created a month ago) has 200k+ users for example.

Absolutely. I sometimes get mildly irked when tweets blame "USA" for this stuff that I absolutely didn't ask for or want, rather than Trump/Republicans/US government, but I 100% believe other countries can & must treat the USA this way, and I don't really expect people to make that fine distinction.
