Donald Shoup's book changed my life. Reading it is what convinced me to go to planning school at UCLA, where Shoup was my advisor.
He literally created a field where there was none before, and showed that, with respect to parking mandates, the emperor had no clothes.

After leaving an event at the planning school, I passed Professor Shoup and his wife on my bike as they walked home, at that point about 2 miles from school. 🙃
He wrote a 800 page book that people have based their careers around and led some of America's great cities to rewrite their municipal code.
