But Wyden tells me former Treasury officials have informed him this is highly implausible.

Of course neither I nor anyone outside Musk’s “team” knows exactly what data they may have stolen of how they may have modified or installed backdoors in sensitive gov’t servers. It all appears to be illegal. House Dems wanted to subpoena Musk to get clarification but MAGA Rs are protecting him.

I'm guessing if Musk's DOGE kids have a copy of the data, they're not keeping it under the same security as US government would. They're acting in a government role without any of the constraints that apply to government.

You’re right. The WH claims Treasury servers are “read-only” but no one outside Musk’s “team” actually knows what they’ve done. No legal justification. No accountability. No oversight. Musk supposedly answers to Trump, but Trump likely hasn’t a clue what Musk is actually doing.

I think it is clear from this and other reporting (see https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/musk-cronies-dive-into-treasury-dept-payments-code-base as well) that this specific programmer is altering the software, so this goes well beyond "read only" / data theft.

The possibilities for mischief are endless.They will say they're stopping payments for "impoundment" purposes, like to cut off "woke" programs. But there could be room for embezzlement too. I'm reminded of the "irregularities" in DOD accounting. Does DOD $$$ come from the same Treasury systems? link
