I think it's ok for adults to not enjoy everything they liked when they were eight years old I'm not a traitor to anyone or anything because I can't get back into DuckTales at 40 (the NES game is still good though)

You'd be surprised how your taste in games change over the years. There were a few games I tried out in many years, only to say to myself, "I can't believe I was into this."
I still like some shows from when I was a kid (Sailor Moon is great, New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is surprisingly funny) but I don't have to hold on to everything and that's not a failing
There are some timeless classics but, like, I can't watch the old TMNT cartoon. When I tried, it wasn't anything like what I remembered, and it was just boring to me. That's been true of almost every 80s commercial cartoon I revisited. Part of what I connected with in I Saw The TV Glow I guess.
I still think an adult can find plenty of value in Pooh and Ghibli films and good stuff like that, but so much is just junk food that's perfectly fine for kids but it can't be the single only thing you ever experience thirty years later
I've known guys that stagnate so hard that they refuse to date someone who hasn't seen the Ninja Turtles movies or someone who isn't interested in Star Wars and that's an alien world for me
My wife hadn't seen any of the Indiana Jones, Terminator, Alien, Jurassic Park, and more movies when we got married.
It was a ton of fun sharing are revisiting those things with her. I don't know why someone wouldn't want that.
You can see the chirality of this with the people who create cultural media—asking a music artist to "make stuff like they used to in the '90s" is denying them the growth they've had in all the years since, and also denying themselves potential growth as someone experiencing that body of work.
Oh no... you've found me... Snail? Just promise to make my death quick. It has been a joy and privilege running from you. But I'm tired of this cat and mouse game. So tired... just end it Snail. I am ready.
My kid is watching the newer one right now and I do think it's a lot better than the original. It's still not really my thing, but I can appreciate this more.
And that's also true for movies and series. It was all fine as a kid and to be honest it was all new. I mean, Battlestar Galactica....so ugly whatching it today. But it was nice :)
I feel just like you (46). I can't get back to old games, they are so ugly sometimes and didn't age well. Don't get me wrong, I loved them, back then when there was nothing else to play. But you can't compare an 8/16-bit game with what is possible today on consoles or PC. Games evolved, so did we.
If someone does still enjoy these things that's fine! But there's nothing wrong with wanting something more complex than the Super Mario Super Show decades later
