Just finished the 5th ep Maybe a misunderstanding on my part: Ellie seems to say two things that are in tension 1) that we don't really know what understanding is for humans and 2) we need something like FMRI to get to a level of explanation of LLMs akin to our understanding of human intelligence.

Probably too much to try to untangle my thoughts on this in some tweets but great convo. Agree with the humility piece -- we can bracket some questions and just keep trying to figure out LLMs, tho I lean v skeptical re AGI likelihood and LLMs really understanding.

Excited to listen. Haven't finished the second to last episode, but always curious to hear your thoughts. So far I like thinking of LLMs like ChatGPT as big libraries, akin to look-up tools, I think that was in an episode.
